Collars and Anchors

First off, happy 100th post to me! Next month is my first blogiversary so hopefully I’ll be getting a lovely giveaway for you guys.

Now then, I’ve not done an outfit post in a while and I like my outfit today a lot so here goes.
A bit ago I posted about a Peter Pan collar dress I got from Topshop but I ended up returning it and at the weekend I bought a different one instead.

Dress; Topshop £28 | Belt; New Look £4.99 | Shoes; Primark £6 | Bandana; £1.50

I really love this dress. It’s exactly my style and I guess it’s not really appropriate for this weather we currently have but I don’t ever let that stop me from how I dress. And I’m completely in love with these shoes. I’m a massive fan of the nautical look so I’m glad that it’s still going to be big this year. Can’t wait for summer when I can wear them a lot more without them getting ruined in the rain. Also, apologies for the awful photo of the bandana, I couldn’t get a decent one. It’s actually got a wire through it so you can bend it into however you want it in your hair which is great for me because normal bandana’s never stay in my hair.

Vivienne Westwood for Comic Relief

Comic Relief is held every other year and next month the main fundraising event takes place. For this years event, Vivienne Westwood has designed a range of t-shirts to raise money for the charity.
In 2009, Stella McCartney designed t-shirts for Red Nose Day which featured iconic photos of music legends, in black and white, and she had simply added on a red nose, as it’s more commonly known on the actual day Red Nose Day. Her range featured the likes of The Beatles and Madonna and where a huge success. I actually have The Beatles on and I absolutely love it.

Vivienne Westwood’s range is similar in that the t-shirts have the black and white image with a customised red nose on each but the images on this range include William Shakespeare (my personal favourite), Rowan Atkinson as his Blackadder character, the iconic “laughing audience” painting by William Hogarth and also a 1970′s punk girl. The range also is available for children and even babies as well as adults.

The t-shirts are on sale today from TK Maxx stores or online at the official Red Nose Day website.
I love these t-shirts and you can create so many outfits with them. With my Beatles one I like to wear it tucked into a skirt with my heart print tights.

Some celebrities have been roped in to model the shirts too…

Laddered Tights favourite, Jameela Jamil, poses with comic Lenny Henry. How FIERCE are Jameela’s shoe boots?

Gok Wan accessories it up with lots of red.

Ellie Goulding goes all punk.

Add Sienna Miller looks fabulous modelling the Blackadder design.

So which is your favourite?

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011

The SAG awards were held last night in LA and so here is the 2nd instalment of  this awards season’s top 5 best dressed.

Note; I was going to also include the British Comedy Awards and the NTA’s in these posts, however I couldn’t find 5 outfits in either that I could compile a top 5 from. Let’s hope the remaining British award shows don’t let the side down.

In at number 5, a surprise entry from the brilliant Tina Fey.

Tina looks incredible in this scarlet red Oscar de la Renta dress. I love her hair like that and she looks beautiful. Bravo Miss Fey!

Number 4 is the stunning Kim Kardashian.

How amazing is this purple Marchesa gown? Purple is my favourite colour, and it’s pretty much always in fashion, and this shade is gorgeous. The detailing on it is lovely too and her make up is divine.

Third place goes to Hollywood star, Hilary Swank.

This Versace Grecian style dress is so beautiful and suits Hilary so much. I’m also a fan of her ombré hair.

Okay, so runner-up is…

Helena Bohnam Carter is notorious for her “crazy” fashion sense and red carpet outfits and I’m a huge fan of them. She gets stick for trying to be different from some critics but I say fair play to her! That is who she is and being with Tim Burton, what do you expect?
I think she looks fabulous here in her Marc Jacobs dress and those shoes look killer!

So the best dressed at the SAG awards…

Mila Kunis is completely owning the red carpet this awards season. She’s absolutely stunning and is fast becoming my new girl crush. She rocked the SAG’s in this Alexander McQueen gown. The colour suits her hair colour and skin tone so well and I’m very excited to see her outfit choices for the rest of the big award shows.

What are your thoughts? Any other outfits catch your eye?

68th Golden Globe Awards: Best Dressed

Award season has begun with the 68th annual Golden Globe awards which took place last night in Beverly Hills. I love awards season but mainly just because of all the amazing and beautiful outfits that are displayed across the red carpet… and the hideous ones!
I thought that for this year, I’m going to try to do a top 5 best dressed from as many award shows as I can so here are my top 5 dresses from this year’s Golden Globe’s.

At number 5 it’s Laddered Tights favourite, Emma Stone.

The usual redhead, who’s currently blonde for her role in the new Spider Man movie, looked stunning in this peach Calvin Klein dress. I prefer her with her natural hair colour but it wouldn’t have worked in her favour with this dress and she still looks stunning, regardless.

Number 4 is Natalie Portman.

Pregnant, and winner of the Best Actress Golden Globe, Natalie wore this baby pink Viktor and Rolf gown. I think she looks great, though this outfit has had mixed reactions.

Number 3 on the best dressed goes to Eva Longoria.

Eva wore this black, figure-hugging Zac Posen dress which shows of all her curves in all the right places. A very simple and classic outfit choice but it works and she looks incredible.

So runner-up, in at number 2, is Angelina Jolie.

I’m not usually an Angelina Jolie fan but I’m in love with this dress. I love that Angelina has stepped away from all the dark colours with this Atelier Versace dress and the colour is stunning. It reminds me of a mermaid and I love how genuinely happy she seems.

So best dressed of the 68th Golden Globes goes to…………..

… the drop-dead gorgeous Mila Kunis, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Swan. Emerald green was clearly a winning colour choice this year as proven by Mila and Angelina.
She looks effortlessly stunning and I think this is a perfect dress for an award show like this.

What do you think of the Golden Globe outfits? Who else did you think looked amazing?

EDIT:

Since I posted this I saw 2 more Golden Globe outfits that should have been on here so seeing as it’s the first award season post, this will have to be a top 7 best dressed ;)

Olivia Wilde completely owned with these sparkly gown and how fierce are those Louboutins? Not at all jealous…

Mandy Moore is absolutely gorgeous, isn’t she? I love this shade of blue and her hair colour looks amazing against it.

Hi there, little pale legs.

This weekend I went to visit my friend Katie who lives in St Helens and today we had a little bit of a shop. I was desperately looking for the dress and tights (which are both sold out online) from this post but I’m starting to think that it just is not meant to be!
However, I got myself a couple of other lovely items today.

First up, my polka dot Peter Pan collar dress. I love the Peter Pan collar look that is everywhere at the moment and this dress is really cute however, since I’ve re-tried it on to take these photos, I’m not sure I like it as much so I may get it exchanged for something else. I think it’s not as fitted as I’d like it for my body. What do you think?

It’s from Topshop and was £26.

I also got a new black tube skirt from Topshop which was only £12!

Next up, these lovely heeled brogues. I really want to be able to get away with wearing heels during the day but I just feel silly.

£10 in the New Look sale! They’re only a little heel so I may start trying to wear them more for during the day.

Side note: Pale skin FTW!

River Island was the next stop.

How AWESOME is this belt? Very is the answer. It was priced at £8 from £16.99 but it was only £5 when I got to the till. Simple things like that make me happy.

Now, possibly my most favourite item I’ve bought in a while are these shorts, also from River Island…

Completely in love! They cost £24.99 and they’re so comfy and I’ve already come up with a few different outfits and ways to wear them. The ruffled sort of waistline looks amazing and also, the belt is with the shorts. They look really good with the heeled brogues too!

Also teamed them with some knee-high socks. really like this outfit outcome! Check out my post on knee-high socks from last year, if you’ve not already.
Can’t wait to wear these shorts out somewhere, now.

Hope everyone is doing good and enjoying the post-Christmas sales!

Style Stealer: Emma Stone

I did my first of this feature about a month ago on Fearne Cotton and I really like the idea of it so I’m going to try to do one once a month so if you want me to find a high street copy of any celebrities outfit then leave a comment and I’ll get a post up as soon as possible.

Today’s edition is going to be American actress, Emma Stone. I mentioned Emma in my blog the other day about what’s going to be big in 2011 and I really like her.

I’m going to find a high street replica of the outfit that she wore for the David Letterman show, which airs in America, a few months ago.

Purple shift dress £36; ASOS

Black blazer jacket £30; Miss Selfridge

I spent ages trying to find a similar navy blazer but I had no luck but I think this black one will get the same classy look that Emma’s original outfit created.

Patent court shoes £30; Dorothy Perkins

Ring £5; Topshop

Perfect look for an evening meal and with this freezing weather we’re currently having, you may want to put some tights on with this outfit too!

Note: man holding umbrella is not compulsory.

New year, new fashion

First off, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year.
We’re now into 2011 (scary, huh? No way has it been 12 months since 2010 started!) and I entered the year in this outfit.

Sorry it isn’t the greatest photo, I didn’t have much time. I spent a lot of time stressing that I had nothing to wear so during my break from work (of New Year’s Eve!) I ended up in New Look. Now, I used to love New Look but it went rapidly down hill this year, but I went in regardless actually on the hunt for a black dress but ended up buying this top. I really like the “classic” look of it and lace is still going to be in fashion for the next season too.
I got home and I had a package from River Island waiting for me which consisted of these House of Holland tights which I’ve been wanting for so long and I also got another pair which I’m sure will feature on a future outfit post.
Really enjoyed my outfit for last night and my tights got a lot of compliments!

Okay, so 2011… new year, new season, new fashion! So what is going to be big for Spring/Summer 2011..?

  • Bright, bold block colours like pink and orange have been showcased on the catwalks from the likes of Christopher Kane, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Prada.
  • Midi skirts/dresses are set to take over from the maxi dress. The midi hemline is calf length and featured in catwalks including Fendi. For me personally, I won’t be embracing this trend as I like my hemline above my knee. My legs are my favourite body part so I don’t want to hide them!
  • As well as block colours being big in the next season, white will also be huge. Seen in the Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen collections.

They’re just 3 of the trends set to be seen all over the high street in the coming months however, trends such as the military look definitely are not going anywhere which I’m glad about because I now have 3 pairs of military/worker boots!

What about the celebrities who will be big in the fashion world for this year? Well, Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively has been signed up to appear in the new Chanel handbag adverts so I expect we’ll be seeing her even more in 2011.

Actress Emma Stone has been Golden Globe nominated for her role in the incredible film, Easy A, and I predict that after that film she’s going to be getting a lot more recognition.

What trends are you looking forward to? And which celebrities do you think are going to be gracing the fashion magazines this year?

Best Dressed 2010!

We’re coming up to the end of the year so let’s have a little look back through this year in the fashion world…

At this year’s Oscar’s, Carey Mulligan shined in this Prada dress. Carey always looks elegant and sophisticated and always looks stunning.

This year saw Kate Moss’ return to the catwalk, only her 2nd catwalk appearance in 6 years! This was for the Relief For Haiti fashion show in which Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress, in tribute of her late friend, which was auctioned off at the event for £100,000!

If you read my blog regularly then you will be quite aware that these are 3 of my favourite people. Jameela Jamil, Fearne Cotton and Alexa Chung always look fabulous to me and they manage to make me feel so envious every time I see photos of them.

There’s no denying Taylor Swift is drop dead gorgeous and known for her beautiful curly hair, when she stepped out earlier this year with poker straight her she was almost unrecognisable but she still looked as beautiful as ever in studded, slinky dress at the American Music Awards. And I absolutely love her cream bandeau dress from the People’s Choice Awards, which she teamed with trademark red lips.

I did a post this year about how it’s not just the girls that are the fashionable people out there. I think at this point, a special mention needs to go out to lead singer of One Night Only and Burberry model, George Craig.

Who have your best dressed celebrities of this year been?

The perfect outfit

I’m so sorry I’ve not been posting much at all recently. I am so busy at work now I’m full-time manager and all that and with sale launching this week it’s all been quite stressful but I’ve got a day off today and so I’ve been having an online window shop.

Christmas/New Year sales are starting around now and some stores have started their online sales before the actual in-store sales so I’ve been having a look around and I found such a beautiful dress and for just £10! Then I realised it was sold out. Absolutely gutted! So hopefully I’ll get to go shopping soon and pray that it’s available in store. I need it in my life.
After I found the dress, I decided to put together an outfit that I would very much like to own and here’s what I came up with.

  1. Mock over the knee tights with bird print – Topshop; £8.50
  2. Frill bib sleeveless dress – Miss Selfridge; £10 from £39 (SOLD OUT – sadface)
  3. Peace sign necklace – Temporary:Secretary; £10
  4. Nude waterfall cardigan – Dorothy Perkins; £32
  5. Satchel – H! by Henry Holland @ Debenhams; £40
  6. Tan pumps – Dorothy Perkins; £18

See why I’m gutted about the dress being unavailable? Focal point of my perfect outfit isn’t even in stock and I’ve just teased myself by making this now!
I’ve wanted a satchel bag for so long now but I can’t find one that I really like but I love this Henry Holland one. And I will definitely be purchasing those tights, they’re gorgeous!

It might get to the new year before I get another blog up as I only get Christmas Day off work but I will try. If not, hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and a fabulous New Year!

Lots of love,

Louise xxxx
